Eco-Schools

We have plenty to do in Penybont when we're not in class. Here are some of the clubs we can join:

RUGBY

The school rugby team trains on Wednesday after school. Mr Elias and Mr Gilbert are our rugby teachers. They are helped by Kyle Maiden. We learn new skills and have a lot of fun!
We play rugby matches against others schools in the Bridgend area on Friday afternoons.
These are the results for the A team, this season (2007-2008):

Blaengarw (away) lost               Brackla (home) won
Ogmore Vale (home) won           Ogmore Vale (home)
Bryntirion (home) won
IMWilliams Cup (lost)

We have also competed in the Keith Grice Memorial Tournament where we were defeated by Bro Ogwr and Llangewydd, but won against St. Clare’s and Tynyrheol.
This season our B team has also played regularly, and we have now started a very successful C team, made up largely of very promising Year 4 players.

Netball Club for Year 3 and 4 Girls

This club will take place on Thursday after school from 3:15 pm until 4:00 pm.  We hope in this club, to enhance the development of throwing and catching skills in netball.  This will help the girls to be more proficient in the skills needed for senior netball.

We plan to make this a fun and enjoyable experience for all who attend.

Pottery Club

We learn about where clay comes from, how pottery is made, and how to use a kiln to fire the pots in. The things we make are displayed about school. Pottery club is for Year3 every Wednesday after school with Mrs Chappell and Miss Morse

Netball Club- Year 5/6

We meet every Wednesday evening, after school, from 3.15 – 4.00 to practise passing, marking and footwork. The girls are also allowed to get out the nets every playtime, to practise their shooting.
Miss Wheeler is very impressed with the way the girls work as a team and their dedication to attending practise sessions.
The A team have won every game this season, so far. The B team have won 3 and lost 1. The C team are doing well and are enjoying playing short matches against other schools.

Recorder Club

Both clubs meet on Wednesday, after school, from 3:15 pm to 3:45 pm. In the Beginner Club (with Miss James) we learn to play basic notes and begin to read music. At the end of the year, the Beginners are encouraged to progress to the Advanced Club (with Mrs Player), where we learn more notes and to play in parts. We look forward to playing in the Musical Soiree in June of each year.

History Club

History Club is taken by Mrs Player. This year we have been finding out more about Oddfellows Street in Bridgend for a competition. We have visited Bridgend Reference Library to use the census records, used the Internet and lots of reference books to help us make a film, make a model of a typical welsh terraced house and make a display to show our work.

Eco Club

Eco Club meets after school on Tuesdays and will be taken by Miss Thomas for the Year 4s.  The club will work on environmental issues through the school, whether it’ll be monitoring collections or setting up new initiatives.  We’re here to improve the school environment!

Computer Club

Computer Club meets on Thursdays at lunchtime and is taken by Mrs L Davies for Y5. We will be designing a new website which will show how Bridgend has changed over time, using old photographs. The children will be learning how to use PaintShopPro and Front Page.

Art Club

Art Club meets from 3:15 pm to 4:00 pm on Thursdays with Miss Jones in her classroom. Small groups taken from Year 4 are invited throughout the year, to make a variety of art and craft items, which can then be taken home.

Bridge Club

A cut down version of the game of Bridge specially designed for youngsters. The children develop thinking skills, strategy and memory as they compete with each other. Lunchtime in the library for pupils from Y6.
