In science, we have learned all about our bodies. We created models to help us locate our major organs; produced Powerpoint Presentations to tell our classmates about the functions of those organs; and used ICT to generate leaflets about the skin. In English, we have written about an imaginary journey through our digestive system; produced recounts of the story of the Gunpowder Plot, or of our Bonfire Night experiences; and we are currently studying narrative poetry, which includes the poem ‘The Highwayman’ by Alfred Noyes. In history we have been to St. Fagans to find out all about life in the Nineteenth Century. We studied the homes, clothes, pastimes and lives of the people from that era and, when we came back, produced accounts of how life changed between 1805 and 1895, and wrote about the day in a life of a child from 1855. In school, we even got to handle the coins they would have used at that time, and had to work out which collection of coins might have come from each of the three periods we studied there.YR5-6 Visit St Fagans
In geography, we have begun to study Gweta, in Botswana. We shall find out more about Gweta in the new term. A little of what we have learned about Africa, we have used to help make African masks, using real clay, which we have decorated. Also in art, we have created still-life paintings of fruit. making African masks Our main DT project was to design and make slippers. This was great fun, but we also had to research and plan our project carefully. We have also made our own Christmas decorations: Mr Elias' class make Slippers and Christmas decorationsIn ICT we have e-mailed each other, and pupils in Tremains Primary School, as well as creating PowerPoint Presentations; making posters; leaflets; and organising our work into folders to tidy up our workspaces. Ac yn Gymraeg, ni’n gallu siarad, darllen ac ysgrifennu yn well. Yn yr Gwasanaeth Nadolig, roeddem ni’n siarad yn Gymraeg or flaen ein rhieni. We have had a number of other great experiences besides these: we organised and sold wristbands for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, making over £70 profit for them; we have taken part in the Harvest Festival and Christmas Carol Services; some of us have had cycle training; we litter-picked around school for a whole month; we have raised money for Children in Need; Year 6 visited the Follow the Flame exhibition, and Morgan got to hold a real Olympic Games’ torch; and, this week, we had a great time going to the cinema to see the film Hugo. In 3D! The snow scenes were incredible! Mr Elias' class Follow the Flame
