Eco Club

We are here to make our school naturally

the best!

Eco Club meets every Thursday afternoon until 4pm.  Our club currently has fifteen members and is managed by Mrs Oatridge and Miss Britten.

When we meet we discuss the Eco initiatives that we are working towards and raise any new ideas.

We are currently trying to encourage all the children in our school to keep our corridors tidy and to pick up coats and bags that are on the floor.  To encourage this, teachers are awarding house points to any child who is seen to be doing this.  Further to this our Eco team are monitoring each class’ cloakroom to see whose is the tidiest.  The winning class get two house points each when their names are mentioned in our Whole School Assembly on Friday morning.

We are also currently collecting ringos for recycling and made an action in September that we would endeavour to collect three times more than 137 ringos which was last year’s total.  As a club we wrote letters to local publicans and shops and delivered them in the hope that the community would support us in our target. We are graphing this collection for the whole school to see. So far we have collected over 780 (February ’10 total) and are still continuing to collect them in the hope that our total will increase further and continue to exceed last year’s total.

We are also encouraging our school to reuse paper before we recycle it and are monitoring the amount of paper we recycle in our Abitibi bags.  We are trying to encourage all staff and children to use both sides of the paper whenever possible.

As a club we are continuously monitoring the recycling depot in our school and tidying it up to make sure that everything we collect is recycled correctly.  We gather the recycled materials together and Mrs Oatridge takes it to her local recycling depot.

We have currently achieved our silver award and are working very hard to achieve our Green Flag Award!
